Able2 Football is an initiative aimed at providing Intellectually Disabled individuals and groups an opportunity to experience a fun filled game of football.

Games are played in 2 indoor venues in the Hutt Valley and Wellington. Participants get to play without any expectations and as each participant has differant abilities, consideration is taken to allow each player an opportunity to kick the ball and feel apart of the game. Players are split into 2 teams and bibs are issued to each team so everyone is clear as which team they are on and which direction they are to kick.

As many participants have limited understanding of football, no pressure to perform is applied and the only objective is that everyone has fun.

The venues used allow for the ball to bounce off the wall and stay in play, giving more chances to kick the ball. In warm up, multiple balls are used so everyone gets lots of chances to kick a ball.

Since Able2 Football started, participants have shown great progress, from standing watching the ball pass them, to now often chasing the ball. For most participants this is the highlight of their week.
